HCMC – The northern province of Quang Ninh earned nearly VND27.7 trillion from tourism in the January-May period and is stepping up major events as it pursues a full-year revenue target of VND65 trillion.
According to Quang Ninh’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the province welcomed more than 10.1 million visitors in the first five months of the year, including over 7.9 million domestic travelers and 2.2 million international visitors.
Overnight stays totaled nearly three million. Tourism revenue is estimated at nearly VND27.7 trillion, up 20% from the same period last year, driven by the strong growth in visitor arrivals.
Local tourism authorities attributed the growth to a series of large-scale cultural, sporting and tourism events that helped boost the province’s appeal as a destination.
Among the highlights was the Quang Ninh Summer Culture, Sports and Tourism Week 2026, headlined by Halong Carnival 2026. The event series attracted nearly 2 million visitors and generated more than VND6 trillion in tourism revenue.
Beyond major events, Quang Ninh has stepped up tourism promotion efforts and expanded its outreach in international markets, focusing on potential source markets such as Russia and Australia.
The province is also developing new tourism products, improving service quality and strengthening destination management to cater to increasingly diverse visitor demand, particularly during the peak summer travel season.
Quang Ninh plans to host more cultural, sporting and tourism events through the end of the year as it works toward its target of attracting 22 million visitors, including 5.2 million international arrivals, and generating VND65 trillion in tourism revenue.
Major events scheduled for the coming months include the Halong Bay Heritage Marathon, international golf tournaments, the National Green Tourism Forum 2026, the Quang Ninh Culinary Festival, and a series of Halong Food Tour events.
Local events such as the Binh Lieu Golden Harvest Festival and the Binh Lieu Camellia Festival are also expected to attract more visitors to the province’s mountainous areas later this year.
Building on its current growth momentum, Quang Ninh is implementing a range of measures to meet its 2026 tourism targets and maintain its position as one of Vietnam’s leading tourism destinations.
