HCMC – Ho Chi Minh City is stepping up efforts to promote its cultural heritage, historic landmarks, and distinctive cuisine through a digital media ecosystem that combines traditional journalism with social media platforms.

The initiative aims to expand the reach of the city’s cultural assets, attract visitors, and support local economic growth as part of its sustainable urban development strategy. The communications program is being implemented through cooperation among the HCMC Department of Culture and Sports, the Vietnam Cultural Heritage Conservation Support Fund, and TikTok Vietnam.

A key component of the initiative is the “Cham Di San” (Touching Heritage) project, which will focus on culturally rich areas such as Saigon Ward, Ben Thanh Ward, and the Cho Lon area. The project will use short-form videos, livestreams, and interactive online activities to engage audiences both in Vietnam and abroad.

The plan was announced at a meeting on the rollout of the multi-platform communications program held in HCMC on June 9.

Leveraging digital platforms with large user bases, the campaign is designed not only to preserve cultural and heritage values but also to stimulate tourism demand. According to the Department of Culture and Sports, promotional content will highlight the unique characteristics of each locality, ranging from local communities and historical sites to distinctive culinary traditions.

Local authorities will play a proactive role in identifying notable cultural assets and working with experts to develop professional and effective communications strategies.

A representative of TikTok Vietnam said the company would implement a nationwide digital communications program over the next five years. In HCMC, social media is expected to help bring the city closer to international visitors while enabling small businesses and local enterprises to promote their signature products, thereby supporting the growth of the digital economy and cultural tourism.
