DANANG BREAKS GROUND ON VND4.1-TRILLION INDUSTRIAL PARK

HCMC – Danang authorities and the project investor on March 29 broke ground on the Tam Anh-An An Hoa Industrial Park in the Chu Lai Open Economic Zone, marking a major step in expanding the city’s industrial capacity.
With a total investment of around VND4,150 billion, the project is developed by An An Hoa Urban and Industrial Park JSC.
It spans 435.8 hectares in Tam Anh Commune, Danang. Of this, about 331 hectares are allocated for industrial leasing, 65 hectares for green space, and nearly 40 hectares for technical infrastructure.
Under the approved zoning plan, the industrial park is designed as an eco-industrial park, prioritizing investment in sectors such as electronics, electrical equipment and mechanical engineering, supporting industries for mechanical engineering, as well as food and beverage processing, pharmaceuticals, furniture, construction materials and new technologies.
At the groundbreaking ceremony, National Assembly Vice Chairman Nguyen Duc Hai said the industrial park would play a key role along the East-West Economic Corridor, helping to form a large-scale industrial zone and serving as a vital component of the regional economy, while reducing logistics costs and enhancing the global competitiveness of Vietnamese goods.
He therefore urged the project developer and city authorities to pursue industrial development focused on attracting high-tech, advanced and smart industries that reduce carbon emissions and adapt to climate change.
He also called for building waste and wastewater management systems for reuse, turning one factory’s waste into another’s input, and balancing industrial production with environmental protection and social welfare to promote a clean, circular and sustainable industrial model.

PORT THROUGHPUT IN HẢI PHÒNG EXCEEDS EIGHT-MONTH TARGET
Ports in the northern city of Hải Phòng handled an estimated 134.34 million tonnes of goods in the first eight months of 2026, exceeding the eight-month target of 115 million tonnes by 16.8 per cent and rising 11.74 per cent year on year, equivalent to 56.2 per cent of the full-year plan. The strong performance followed a series of measures to optimise port capacity and improve the competitiveness of the city’s seaport system, with a focus on maximising the efficiency of the Lạch Huyện international gateway port as new berths came into operation.

VIETNAM LOGISTICS COSTS ACCOUNT FOR 16 PER CENT OF GDP
Speaking at a logistics conference on August 26, Ho Thi Quyen, deputy director of the Ho Chi Minh City Investment and Trade Promotion Centre, said that Vietnam is now home to more than 34,000 logistics companies, with the sector contributing around 4.5-5 per cent of GDP. However, logistics costs remain high at approximately 16 per cent of GDP.

The steel industry recorded double-digit growth in both production and sales in the first seven months of 2026, while export remained more subdued, highlighting the increasing importance of domestic demand as public investment and construction activity expand. According to the World Steel Association, Việt Nam produced around 15.2 million tonnes of crude steel in the first half of 2026, up 26.9 per cent year-on-year, keeping the country among the world's 10 largest steel producers.
